TallyKnot

Useful numbers, not professional advice.

We build every TallyKnot tool and guide to be as accurate and clear as we can. Still, a calculator on a website cannot know your whole situation. This page explains, in plain words, what you can expect from our tools and where you should double-check before you act.

Results are estimates Good for planning and comparing, not a final quote.
Not professional advice For big decisions, ask your bank, an accountant or an adviser.
Check your documents You decide what goes on an invoice, receipt or payslip.

1 Our calculators give estimates

Every calculator on TallyKnot uses a standard formula, and each tool page shows that formula with an example. But real-life numbers often differ a little, and sometimes a lot, from what a calculator shows. A few common reasons:

  • Rounding. Your bank may round each monthly payment to the nearest unit and adjust the last payment. Over a long loan, this can make the total differ slightly from ours.
  • Fees and charges. Processing fees, insurance, late fees and taxes on interest are usually not included unless the tool asks for them.
  • Changing rates. A loan with a floating rate, or an investment such as a SIP, does not earn or charge the same rate every year. Our tools assume the rate you enter stays the same for the whole period.
  • How interest is counted. Lenders and banks compound interest daily, monthly or quarterly. Each tool states the method it uses, and this may not match your bank's method.

Please use the results to plan, compare options and understand the numbers. Before you sign anything, ask the lender or bank for their exact figures.

2 This is not financial, tax or legal advice

TallyKnot is not a bank, a lender, a financial adviser, a tax accountant or a law firm. Nothing on this website, including the tools, the guides and the cashbook, is a recommendation to buy, borrow, invest or file anything.

Money rules depend on where you live and on your own situation. Tax rates, deductions, loan regulations and invoice rules are different in every country, and they change over time. If a decision matters, for example taking a home loan, choosing an investment or filing a tax return, please talk to a qualified professional who knows your situation.

Example

The tax calculator can add or remove a 10% tax from a price. It cannot tell you whether 10% is the right rate for your product, or whether you need to charge tax at all. Your local tax office or an accountant can.

3 Invoices, receipts, payslips and other documents

Our document tools (such as the invoice, quotation, receipt, rent receipt, purchase order and salary slip generators) turn the details you enter into a clean PDF. You stay responsible for what the document says.

  • Check every amount, date, name and address before you send it.
  • Some countries require extra details on an invoice or receipt, such as a tax registration number, a specific layout or a sequential invoice number. Please make sure your document meets the rules where you do business.
  • A salary slip made with our tool is a record of what you enter. It does not calculate statutory deductions for any country unless you enter them yourself.
  • Do not use our tools to make a false or misleading document. That is against our Terms of Service and may be against the law.

4 Guides and articles

Our guides explain money topics in general terms, with simple examples. They are written to help you understand an idea, not to tell you what to do with your own money.

We check our guides when we publish them and update them when we find something out of date. Still, rules, rates and products change, and an article may not reflect the latest situation in your country. Each guide shows the date it was published, so you can judge how current it is.

5 The TallyKnot cashbook

The cashbook (the Android app, the web dashboard and TallyKnot Local) is a record-keeping tool. It shows the entries you add and the totals worked out from them. It does not connect to your bank and it does not check whether your entries are correct.

The totals are only as accurate as the entries in your cashbook. For important records, such as business accounts you need for tax, we recommend you download a copy regularly (the web dashboard can export to Excel and PDF) and keep it somewhere safe.

6 Links to other websites and advertising

Some pages link to other websites, for example Google's privacy pages or the Google Play store. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

To keep TallyKnot free, the website shows ads. An ad on our page is not a recommendation from us. We do not review or endorse the products, loans or services in ads, and advertisers have no say in our tools or guides. Please do your own research before you buy or sign up for anything you see in an ad.

7 Accuracy and availability

We test our tools with worked examples and fix mistakes as soon as we learn about them. Even so, we cannot promise that every result will always be free of errors, or that the website will always be available without interruption.

The tools, guides and cashbook are provided free and "as is". To the extent the law allows, TallyKnot is not responsible for any loss or damage that comes from using, or relying on, a result, document or article on this website. Nothing on this page limits any rights you have under the law where you live that cannot be limited.

8 Found a mistake? Please tell us

If a number looks wrong, a PDF does not print correctly or a guide is out of date, we really want to know. Tell us which page or tool you used and what you entered, and we will look into it.
